Inter threw their hat in the ring in the Jonathan David race, whose signing will be far from cheap despite his free agent status. However, the striker and his camp turned down the opening offer and are driving a hard bargain, Fanatik reports (via Fantacalcio).
The Nerazzurri reportedly tabled a five-year contract with a €6M annual salary. The numbers are on par with a few of their cornerstones. However, the center-forward is asking for €9M wages.
Only Lautaro Martinez earns that much at Inter, and their management is unlikely to raise the proposal. Like a few other sides, they’ll continue to keep tabs on the Canadian talismans, hoping he will decrease his demands eventually. His entourage also wants a €15M commission/signing bonus.
The 25-year-old is looking for a rich day and isn’t too close to any outfit at the moment. Some Turkish ones are trying. Juventus, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich have been linked to him at some point when it became clear he wouldn’t re-up with Lille and depart on a Bosman move.
The marksman has tallied 25 goals and 11 assists in 46 matches this season, recently ending a month-long slump.
Considering how in trouble they have been without Marcus Thuram, or when Lautaro Martinez wasn’t in good form, the Nerazzurri will have to go big-game hunting for a top-notch third option who would be a clear upgrade over their deputies. He’d be that, but he’ll not come to Serie A at those numbers. Still, they can always go down if no team matches them.
