David Raum will take over the armband from Willi Orban after having been appointed the new captain of RB Leipzig. The Germany international had previously captained the side during the 7-0 win against Toulouse in pre-season, having been given the armband after coming on.
The 26-year-old's first official match as RBL captain should be the first-round DFB-Pokal clash away at SV Sandhausen on Saturday (15:30 CEST).
David joined RB Leipzig in summer 2022 and has since featured in 109 competitive games for the club (4 goal, 21 assists). He quickly developed a reputation for being willing to take up responsibility within the team and his passionate style of play makes him a real fan favourite. Both the team and the club greatly value his friendly and professional attitude.
Xaver Schlager has been appointed the team's new vice-captain. Willi Orban, Christoph Baumgartner, Benjamin Henrichs and Castello Jr. will complete our team countil for the 2025/26 season.
Peter Gulacsi will be our first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming Bundesliga season. The Hungarian shot-stopper not only brings plent of experience to the table, but has also been able to back it up with strong performances. Last season, he kept a league high 14 clean sheets in 30 appearances.
"It was a close competition at the highest level. We have full confidence in the pair of them, but Pete's strong performances in pre-season, coupled with his impressive showing last season where he was one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga, meant that he had a slight edge," said Ole Werner.
However, the coach added, "The future belongs to Maarten Vandevoordt. He's made excellent progress given his age and always works hard in training, even after we shared our decision with him." In order to ensure that the 23-year-old is able to gain regular match practice still, Werner shared that he will start Saturday's DFB-Pokal clash against Sandhausen.
