Davide Calabria’s lifelong career at Milan came to a sorrowful end on Saturday as he bid an emotional farewell to his childhood club. Indeed, the Italian right-back is on the verge of joining Serie A top-six hopefuls Bologna after falling out of favor with new boss Sergio Conceicao.

Milan signed Kyle Walker on loan from Manchester City last week. Furthermore, Emerson Royal joined the club from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, pushing the 28-year-old to the fringes. Calabria’s bust-up with Conceicao after a 3-2 win against Parma was the final straw.

It took the defender’s career at Milan to the point of no return. As a result, Calabria is ready to embark on a new chapter at Renato Dall’Ara. He left the San Siro in tears yesterday. Overwhelmed by emotions, Calabria waved goodbye to the Rossoneri faithful.

“It’s hard, I’ll miss everything. I’m happy with what I’ve experienced here. I’ll carry every memory with me forever. I’m grateful for what I’ve lived through at Milan, and I’ll always keep it with me,” Calabria told Sky Sport Italia via Gianluca Di Marzio.

“The last few hours have been difficult, it’s like breaking up with your wife,” Calabria added.

He has been a permanent first-team fixture at Milan since 2015. But despite wearing the captain’s armband in recent seasons, his on-field performances have rarely impressed. Therefore, his impending transfer to Bologna could be a win-win deal for all parties.
