David De Gea had another great showing in the first leg of the Conference League semi-finals and dropped a hint about his future, which has yet to be determined, as he signed just a one-year contract last summer, although with an option (via TuttoSport).
“The atmosphere in Florence will be incredible. We’re comfortable in front of our people. It was great here too. As for next season and a possible La Liga return, I take it day by day. I’m very happy with my team, and I’m enjoying Italian football a lot. I hope we can obtain the best we can along with the group. The third time could be the charm in the Conference League.”
De Gea has been a standout performer at Fiorentina after a year out of football following his Manchester United exit. He has kept 11 clean sheets in 37 matches across all competitions, giving up 41 goals.
The 34-year-old is leaning toward staying put but would have if he decided to move, Mediaset informs. In particular, Juventus could take a look at him if they sold Michele Di Gregorio. They just completed his acquisition for €20M. They’d be able to turn a profit on him since some English teams are eyeing him.
He’s been spectacular and the latest to benefit from the oasis created by La Viola, which are becoming elite in rehabilitating players after rough seasons. He should stick around for a couple more campaigns before fading into the sunset. As for the Bianconeri, unless there’s an offer that can really blow them away, it wouldn’t make much sense to substitute for a solid contributor with somebody in the twilight of his career.
