Barcelona captain Frenkie de Jong led his side in last night’s 1-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain, a result that served as a stark reality check for the team.

Speaking to the media after the match, the Dutch midfielder admitted the loss was disappointing, particularly because PSG managed to snatch victory in the closing moments.

“Very disappointed, we lost at home in the last minute. They were better in the final phase and in the second half in general.

“It was more of an even game in the first half, and we were better, especially in the opening minutes, but it’s true that they were better in the second,” de Jong said.

Despite the setback, de Jong remained optimistic about the team’s potential. He acknowledged the absence of key players and insisted that the defeat was not the end of their Champions League ambitions.

“We also have some absences; it was a good game to see where we stand. We’re also a top team in Europe, but while this defeat hurts, it’s not decisive in the Champions League,” he added.

He concluded with a focus on improvement, saying, “We always want to win. We’re not leaving with a good taste in our mouths.

We have to improve, we know it, and we’re going to do it.”

Defender Eric Garcia also shared his thoughts on the match, acknowledging that Barcelona struggled in the second half but was proud of his own performance.

Fatigue left him exhausted, though he clarified that his calf discomfort was minor.

“No, I’m fine. I was exhausted and my calf pain has gone up a bit,” he said after the match.

He admitted that PSG dominated the second half physically. “It was a pain. In the end, we were good in the first half. We scored and had chances.

“But then, when they conceded, they improved. In the second half, we struggled a lot; we were trailing, and in the end, we had the equaliser, but it slipped away.”

He concluded by saying, “They held their own physically because they had more possession, especially in the second half.

If you’re behind, you get more tired, and they had more chances.”
