Deal close for Chelsea & Tottenham transfer target in surprise update | OneFootball

A new contract is reportedly getting closer for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic despite him also being linked with Chelsea and Tottenham.

The Serbia international’s current Juve deal is due to expire this summer, but it now looks like progress is being made on an extension to that deal.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, it seems Vlahovic is closing in on a new contract to extend his stay at Juventus despite his dip in form in recent times.

This is Vlahovic’s fifth season in Turin, and his numbers only seem to be heading in one direction, as you can see in the table below…

Vlahovic had been linked with Chelsea and Spurs by Foot Mercato, and while he might have been a tempting option as a free agent, he’s not exactly set the world alight during his time with Juve, so it’s a bit of a surprise they’re now working on keeping him.

If these latest reports are accurate then it looks like we surely won’t be seeing Vlahovic joining Chelsea or Tottenham this summer.

Both clubs have issues up front, so bringing in the 26-year-old as a free agent just to add some squad depth might have been reasonable business, even if there are probably also more exciting options out there.

Spurs in particular are having a miserable season, and will likely need to replace Randal Kolo Muani, who is only in north London on loan, while other forwards like Dominic Solanke and Mathys Tel haven’t performed consistently enough.

Vlahovic may not be a world beater, but he could have added something to this THFC squad, while CFC also look in need of more experience in their ranks.

Liam Delap looks like this big move came too soon for him, and the Blues lack an alternative to Joao Pedro, so it’s easy to imagine Vlahovic could have had a decent impact coming off the bench from time to time.
