The Congolese winger from Augsburg is preparing for a return to France to bolster Montpellier HSC.

Montpellier HSC has reached an agreement with FC Augsburg this Monday, June 30, for the loan of Nathanaël Mbuku. The Congolese forward will join the Hérault club for one season, with a purchase option included.
After a stint at Dinamo Zagreb last season, where he made 20 appearances across all competitions, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist, Nathanaël Mbuku was recently bought back by Augsburg via a specific clause. However, the Congolese attacker will not remain in Germany. In fact, Montpellier and Augsburg have agreed on a straight one-year loan deal.
The Pailladin management has accelerated talks in recent days to outpace rival interest from other French clubs, notably Nantes and Strasbourg, who are also keen on the player’s profile. This move is part of Montpellier HSC’s strategy to build a competitive squad capable of quickly returning to Ligue 1 at the end of the 2025/26 season. Having already experienced Ligue 1 during his time at Stade Reims and Saint-Etienne, Nathanaël Mbuku is expected to adapt easily to this new challenge in the French second division.
