FC Bayern has clarified Javi Fernández’s future. The talented midfielder will remain with 1. FC Nürnberg, where he is expected to take the next step in his development.
FC Bayern has made its next personnel decision. Javi Fernández will continue to play for 1. FC Nürnberg on loan next season. The Munich club, the German club, and the Spanish midfielder recently reached an agreement on this.
According to information from BILD, the loan will thus be extended. Fernández was already on loan to Nuremberg during the second half of the recently concluded season and quickly made a strong impression there. His development did not go unnoticed by other clubs; most recently, several clubs are said to have shown interest in a loan for the 2026/27 season.
However, the 19-year-old has now made a conscious decision to remain with the club. The decision was made in close consultation with FC Bayern, with whom Fernández is under contract until 2028. For all parties involved, the young player’s athletic development is the top priority.
According to the report, there were several reasons for staying in Nuremberg. Fernández feels very at home at the club and in the city. Additionally, he was apparently convinced by the club’s management plan to enter the new season with an ambitious squad.
The prospect of regular playing time plays a central role in this. Fernández is expected to continue playing an important role in Nuremberg and establish himself in professional soccer. Despite other options, the midfielder thus opted for continuity rather than another move.
This is particularly important for the former Spanish youth international. In January 2023, after four years at Atlético Madrid, Fernández joined Bayern’s youth academy as an internationally sought-after top talent. There, he worked his way up to training with the pros and was even allowed to join the training camp in the summer of 2024.

After that, however, the Spaniard was set back by two serious injuries. Problems with his ankle and meniscus sidelined him for about ten months. The loan to Nuremberg subsequently proved to be the right move to help him regain his rhythm and confidence upon his return.
In his eight second-division appearances so far, Fernández has gained valuable experience and further developed his playing style. He is now part of coach Miroslav Klose’s squad and is expected to play an important role in the coming season as well. FC Bayern, the club, and the player now hope that his development in Nuremberg will continue.
