Paul Smyth opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a right-footed finish, then added another and an assist to drive Queens Park Rangers to a 6-1 win over Portsmouth.
Early on, he rifled from outside the box into the top right corner, setting the tone as the hosts broke with pace and purpose.
Moments later he burst away on a fast break and squared for Rayan Kolli to find the bottom right from range (24.). Smyth then timed a blind-side run to the centre and slotted low from Harvey Vale's through ball (29.).
Smyth finished with two attempts, both on target, two goals and one assist, plus four recoveries and a tackle. A neat snapshot of end product and work rate in wide areas.
Because Portsmouth's full backs stepped inside to help build play, his starting positions stayed high and wide, giving him room to attack transitions and force their back line to retreat repeatedly.
Queens Park Rangers rise from 17th to 13th and host Watford next. Portsmouth visit Norwich City next.
