Femi Azeez broke the deadlock in the 69th minute, setting Millwall on their way to a 2-0 win at Watford.
Early on, Azeez carried the Lions' threat with direct running and close control, completing three dribbles and twice trying his luck from distance to ask questions of The Hornets' defence.
After the restart he found the space he had been probing for, arriving to score the opener that shifted the afternoon in the Lions' favour. The visitors then added a second (81.).
Azeez's numbers underlined his influence: three attempts, one big chance created and five possessions won, plus six crosses to keep the Hornets pinned back in their own third.
Because Millwall stayed compact and sprang forward quickly, Azeez repeatedly received the ball in advanced pockets, unsettling Watford and ensuring the Lions controlled the key moments after the interval.
The Lions climb to fourth, up from fifth. They visit Coventry next. The Hornets host Portsmouth next.
