Supporters of La Liga giants Barcelona have been left unimpressed by a round of comments laid out by the club’s sporting director, Deco, this week.
As much comes after the Portuguese hinted that the Blaugrana may not seek out the signing of a new centre-forward next summer.
The subject of potential attacking reinforcements to Hansi Flick’s squad has of course long proven a prominent talking point in Catalunya’s capital.
This comes with Barcelona’s long-time chief goalscorer, Robert Lewandowski, expected to depart upon the expiration of his contract.
The assumption, in turn, was that the reigning Spanish champions would dip into the market, to secure a high-profile replacement for the Pole.
Speaking to the media this week, the possibility of as much was therefore put to the aforementioned Deco once more.
During an interview with Tot Costa (as cited by Mundo Deportivo), however, Barca’s transfer chief made use of the opportunity to temper expectations, in explaining:
“You don’t have to obsess over a ‘9,’ you might be wrong. Perhaps you can do it without a ‘9.’ This isn’t the time to talk about signings. Ferran can play as a ‘9. PSG won the Champions League without a penalty area player. Talking about a ‘9’ is a bit of a mistake, although there are good players.”
