Corinthians returned from almost two weeks without a game but lost 3-1 to Fluminense at the Maracanã on Wednesday, a Brasileirão round nine fixture. The result erased their slender advantage in the clubs' historic head-to-head.
According to Meu Timao, the setback could see Corinthians slip further down the table once the round concludes.
The rivals have now met 126 times since 1933, with 45 wins apiece and 36 draws. Corinthians still edge the goals tally, 166 to 161. Baltazar, a hero of the 1940s and 1950s, remains their top scorer in this fixture with six in six.
In league meetings, Corinthians still hold the better record, 27 wins to Fluminense's 26, along with 21 draws. At the Maracanã, Fluminense extended their advantage to 19 wins, with Corinthians on nine and another 17 draws.
This latest defeat made it eight matches without a win for Corinthians this season. They stay on 10 points in 11th place. They host Internacional at the Neo Química Arena on Sunday in round 10.
