Defeat piles on pressure, and Corinthians v Inter is decisive for Dorival

Dorival Júnior is going through a complicated situation in charge of Corinthians. The pressure on the coach increased after the defeat and the poor performance by the black-and-white team against Fluminense last Wednesday at the Maracanã, in the Brazilian Championship.

As Gazeta Esportiva has learned, the tendency is for Dorival to remain in the position until Sunday, when the team faces Internacional. The match is expected to be decisive for the coach’s future at the club.

Corinthians president Osmar Stabile is concerned about the team’s poor form. He is under heavy pressure from people close to him to change the team’s coaching staff, but he has not yet decided to dismiss Dorival.

How much is the penalty?

According to information published exclusively by Gazeta Esportiva last year, the salary of Dorival’s coaching staff at Corinthians is approximately R$ 1.8 million.

The termination penalty to break the contract is equal to three monthly salaries, in addition to some amounts related to the FGTS (Length-of-Service Guarantee Fund). In other words, around R$ 6 million. Although the amount is not considered that high, it carries significant weight given Timão’s serious financial situation.

Uncomfortable winless streak

The defeat to Fluminense extended Corinthians’ winless streak this season. The team has now gone eight straight matches without a victory. It sits 11th in the Brazilian Championship standings, with ten points.

Hired in April last year, Dorival Júnior has managed Timão in 61 matches, with 26 wins, 19 draws, and 16 defeats — a 53% success rate. During this period, he won the Copa do Brasil (2025) and the Super Cup (2026).
