“Defending the whole game” – Frustrated winger not happy with opposition’s tactics

Noni Madueke feels the pressure right now – as do most Chelsea players. There are a lot of good players waiting for their chance, and those being picked in the first team know that it only takes a few bad performances for their place to be in jeopardy.

So perhaps it’s natural that Madueke felt more frustrated than most today, despite having been one of the Blues’ more dangerous players and having opened the scoring for Chelsea against Nottingham Forest.

“Credit to them, they are resilient with a lot of players behind the ball. They know if you give us space we are dangerous, having said that we could have scored three, four or five, but it’s one of those games,” the winger sighed after the game, speaking to BBC Sport.

“They’re a stubborn side. We went into the game with the intention to take three points but we couldn’t get over the line and it’s frustrating. They were defending pretty much the whole game and sometimes it just doesn’t fall.”

Frustrations understandable after 2 dropped points – but fitness matters most

His frustration makes total sense – not only did Chelsea play more than half an hour against ten men, they also drew so many saves from Nottingham Forest Mats Selz which prevented this from being 3 points at home.

Still the important thing for Madueke is that he seems to still be fit, despite having being subbed off late on looking a little hurt. He didn’t mention any injury in this interview, and while we’ll wait for manager Enzo Maresca to give the all clear in his presser, we’re confident Madueke will be ok to go and take his well earned chance with England over the international break – before hopefully then being ready to star against Liverpool in our game at Anfield after that.
