Dele Alli is considering retirement after being left out of Cesc Fabregas’ plans at Como, according to reports in Italy.

The former Tottenham and England midfielder has struggled for fitness and form in recent years, spending time with Everton and Besiktas since leaving Spurs in 2022.

He was handed a fresh start after signing an 18-month deal with upwardly mobile Serie A side Como in January, playing under the tutelage of the Chelsea and Arsenal legend Fabregas.

He had a difficult start to life in Italy, though. Making his debut against AC Milan at the San Siro in March, his first competitive appearance in over two years, Alli was sent off after just nine minutes for a clumsy tackle on Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

He did not play again for Como last season despite returning to training after suffering another injury, and his Serie A fortunes have now taken another downturn as the 29-year-old has not travelled with the Bianconblu to their pre-season training camp in Marbella.

According to a report in La Gazzetta dello Sport, he has been left to train with other out-of-favour players and is seriously considering hanging up his boots despite having a year to run on his contract.

Fabregas has invested £28.7million in midfield reinforcements this summer, bringing in Martin Baturina, Maximo Perrone, and Luca Mazzitelli.

Once considered one of Europe’s most promising prospects, Alli’s career fell on hard times after repeat injuries and off-pitch issues kept him sidelined for long stretches.

He scored 67 goals in 269 appearances for Tottenham, also earning 37 England caps and playing at the 2018 World Cup.

Since leaving Tottenham, Alli has spoken publicly about suffering with addiction, spending time in rehab, and his traumatic childhood.
