Former Napoli and Atalanta striker German Denis believes no one would deserve to win the Ballon d’Or this year as Inter striker Lautaro Martinez, as he reached ‘all his goals’.

Lautaro made a vital contribution to the Nerazzurri’s 20th Scudetto last season by netting 24 goals from 33 Serie A games, becoming the league’s top scorer. Moreover, he also played a pivotal role in Argentina’s Copa America win over the summer by scoring five times in six matches, including the decider in the final against Colombia.

The 27-year-old was one of the two Inter players to be included in the 30-candidate short-list for the 2024 Ballon d’Or alongside Hakan Calhanoglu, and his compatriot Denis believes he would deserve the prize given his scoring consistency and what he achieved.

“This season, Lautaro Martinez deserves to win the Ballon d’Or more than anyone because he scored a lot and achieved all his goals,” Denis told TMW in an interview.

Lautaro Martinez’s current campaign started on a different note compared to last season, as he had to wait five games to score his first two goals of the season in Inter’s 3-2 win at Udinese before adding a third in their Champions League fixture against Red Star.
