Real Madrid are said to have reached a verbal agreement with Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, and could trigger his release clause before mid-July, Gazzetta suggests.
The 30-year-old is in the Netherlands’ pre-World Cup camp. He is understood to have informed Inter a month ago of his wish to leave.
He is viewed as the replacement for Dani Carvajal, who has left Madrid after 13 seasons. Any move must wait for the club’s presidential election result on Sunday.
Inter are expected to receive about €20m rather than the €25m initially set, the clause having fallen due to the progression of Dumfries’ contract, which runs until 2028.
Dumfries is said to have spoken with José Mourinho, whose potential arrival in Madrid is subject to the same conditions and who is understood to have convinced him of the project. Real hope to finalise before the World Cup, which runs from 11 June to 19 July. Inter have had a €40m plus €5m add-ons bid rejected by Atalanta for 21-year-old full-back Marco Palestra, who is under contract until 2029.
