Michele Di Gregorio signed for Juventus today and his agent confirms there were ‘talks with Liverpool, but we had already given our word.’

The goalkeeper impressed over two Serie A seasons with Monza and was ready to take the next step up in his career this summer.

He completed the move to Juve following this morning’s medical tests in Turin, as it is a loan for €4.5m, plus an option to buy at the end of the season for another €13.5m payable in three instalments and €0.8m in add-ons.

There are also a further set of performance-related bonuses up to €2m.

Di Gregorio agent confirms Liverpool negotiations

“This is an important achievement and Juve are a top club, so not all players or agents can see this happen,” Carlo Belloni told TV Play.

With the arrival of Di Gregorio, this inevitably means that Wojciech Szczesny is being pushed out of Juventus, as he does not fit the profile wanted by new coach Thiago Motta.

“Di Gregorio feels ready to replace Szczesny, because he is in the best period of his career, was named MVP for his position in Serie A last season and is prepared for this challenge.”

There were reports of interest in the shot-stopper from Liverpool and his representative confirms that is all true.

“There were talks with Liverpool, and obviously we were very pleased to hear from them. However, we had already given our word and had clear ideas on what to do after Monza.

“We had no doubts on the decision after speaking to director Cristiano Giuntoli.”

Di Gregorio turns 27 later this month and started his career as a product of the Inter youth academy.
