Roma’s transfer window is in full swing, and sporting director Tony D’Amico hopes to land Mason Greenwood for Gian Piero Gasperini as soon as possible.
The Marseille talent is also being sought by other European clubs, most notably Fenerbahçe and Atlético Madrid.
The latter club has been making aggressive moves in recent hours to snatch the English playmaker from Roma.
It’s difficult, however, to see Greenwood in Madrid without Julian Alvarez’s departure.
The Argentine striker would like to move to Barcelona, but the Blaugrana’s offer hasn’t yet satisfied Atlético Madrid.
Furthermore, Colchoneros coach Diego Simeone spoke to ESPN about Alvarez’s future: “He’s an extraordinary player, the best player we’ve had at Atlético Madrid since he arrived. He’s the player around whom we intend, as a club and as a team, to develop our game.”
Simeone then concluded: “I met him today, and we talked a bit about his form, his ankle, and his importance to the team. He told me he’s already doing very well, that he’s 100%.”
At least for now, therefore, it seems unlikely that the former Manchester United player will move to Spain. Roma, for their part, must act quickly to avoid being preempted by the competition.
