Diomande awarded his Bundesliga Rookie of the Month trophy | OneFootball

Yan Diomande is enjoying a very strong debut season for the Red Bulls. This hasn’t gone unnoticed by the German Football League (DFL), as they presented him with his Rookie of the Month for December award. 

“It’s pretty heavy,” was Yan’s first reaction when he held the trophy in his hands.

His joy quickly followed: “I’m very proud and happy,” said the Ivory Coast international, who remains humble despite his achievement. “I have my teammates to thank for this trophy.”

Right behind Lamine Yamal

In the Bundesliga alone, Yan has already recorded 12 goal contributions (7 goals, 5 assists). He's not just one of the best talents in Germany, but in the whole of Europe.

Only one other teenager in Europe’s top five leagues has reached double figures for goal contributions this season - Barcelona's Lamine Yamal (8 goals, 8 assists).

"Everything is happening so fast"

Yan, who just over a year ago was playing in the USPL youth league, is sometimes surprised by his own rapid development. “I still can’t really understand it. Everything is happening so fast,” said the 19-year-old, who made history against St. Pauli by scoring the first-ever RBL goal at the Millerntor-Stadion.

His personal highlight so far was his hattrick against Frankfurt. When asked about his goals for the rest of the season, Diomande said: “Score another hat-trick." Ideally, this would happen on Saturday (3:30 p.m.), when Mainz visit the Red Bull Arena.
