Leeds United could have another free-agent option up front, with Divock Origi said to have ended his AC Milan contract. Fabrizio Romano claims the Belgian forward and Milan have signed termination papers, leaving him unattached.
Calciomercato reported in April 2023 that Leeds wanted Origi as Milan looked to offload him, when he had two goals in 26 outings. He finished with two in 36 for the Italian club.
The 49ers have already mined the free market well this year, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha arriving on free transfers in the summer after leaving Everton and Wolfsburg respectively. Nmecha hit three in four Premier League games before a hamstring injury, while Calvert-Lewin has six in his last five.
Origi still has to prove his fitness and form if he is to earn a January contract.
The situation of Joel Piroe could also shape Leeds’ thinking, as he could leave in January after only two Premier League starts under Daniel Farke. If a buyer offers around £10m, a free deal for Origi might aid Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Robbie Evans has already revealed Leeds have hit the PSR limit, so a sale may be needed before bids for signings. If fit, Origi could keep Farke stocked with three strikers and allow funds to strengthen elsewhere.
