Italy national team captain Gianluigi Donnarumma believes that his former club Milan are the favourites to win the 2025-26 Serie A title, but admits that there are four or five teams in with a chance of claiming the Scudetto this season: ‘There’s a lot of fun to be had’.
The Manchester City stopper, speaking in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, was asked for his verdict on the current state of affairs in Serie A.
The 26-year-old believes that there is more intensity about the Premier League compared to Serie A, but he does not think that that makes the Italian league any less than the English in terms of quality.

“I’ve been lucky enough to watch from two very different places: In Ligue 1 and the Premier League. Looking at it from afar, I can say that ‘our’ football is not lesser than the others’.
“In England, they run from the first to the very last moment of the game. It’s not like that for us, but that doesn’t mean it’s better or worse, that’s just how it is,” Donnarumma explained.
Turning his attention to the current Serie A campaign, Donnarumma says that he has been impressed with what he’s seen from his former club, Milan, following the appointment of Massimiliano Allegri over the summer.

He feels that the Rossoneri are the most likely of the ‘four or five’ teams that are in with a chance of winning the 2025-26 Scudetto,
“There are four or five teams that will have a say. And as I’ve said before, this is what brings a new dimension to Serie A.
“I like Milan. I’m curious about everything behind their turnaround. I think it’s about Allegri, but not just him.
“Milan have big ambitions. I’ve spoken with people who know the club very well, they believe in it and they will do well to win it.”
And, who else does Donnarumma think will be in the mix for the 2025-26 Serie A title?
“Inter, they have strength and a proven group that feeds off knowledge. Conte staying at Napoli with their energy and skill. Gasperini’s new Roma and his margins for improvement, and Juventus have to be taken into consideration. There’s a lot of fun to be had.”
