Borussia Dortmund are on the verge of finalising a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Fabio Silva, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
Talks between the clubs are advanced, with a fee in the region of €25 million (£21.6m; $29.2m) under discussion. Negotiations are ongoing regarding the structure of the transfer and potential bonus payments.
Ornstein previously reported on 5 August that Dortmund had opened talks with Wolves over the Portugal striker, who has spent much of the past three seasons out on loan.
Silva joined Wolves in 2020 from Porto for a then club-record £35m, but after limited opportunities at Molineux, he has had loan spells with Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven, Rangers and, most recently, Las Palmas. He scored 10 goals and provided three assists in La Liga last season, though his efforts were not enough to prevent the Spanish club’s relegation.
The 23-year-old has not played competitively for Wolves since the first half of the 2023-24 campaign, making 10 appearances before heading to Scotland with Rangers. In total, he has registered five goals and six assists across 75 matches for the Premier League side.
Should the move go through, Silva would become the latest senior departure from Wolves this summer, following the exits of Matheus Cunha, Rayan Aït-Nouri, Gonçalo Guedes, Nélson Semedo and Pablo Sarabia. Ornstein also reported this week that Newcastle United had a £50m bid for striker Jørgen Strand Larsen rejected by the Midlands club.
Speaking to The Athletic earlier this year, Silva reflected on the challenges he faced at Wolves, saying he felt he “didn’t have time and space to make mistakes” due to his high-profile transfer and the expectations that came with it.
