DR Congo has declared a nationwide paid public holiday on Wednesday 1 April 2026 to mark the Leopards’ World Cup qualification, the government said in an official statement from Employment and Labour Minister Ferdinand Massamba Wa Massamba.

Residents stayed up late from Tuesday into Wednesday to watch the intercontinental play-off final against Jamaica. The Leopards won 1-0 after extra time, clinching a first World Cup appearance in 52 years after a largely controlled display.
