VfB Stuttgart sealed fourth place and Champions League qualification on Saturday afternoon, despite squandering a two-goal lead in a 2-2 Bundesliga draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Sebastian Hoeneß’ side made a perfect start, taking the lead after just 10 minutes. A pinpoint corner from Chris Führich found Chema Andrés, who rose highest to head home and send the visitors ahead.
Stuttgart doubled their lead late in the second half through Nikolas Nartey, who capped off a flowing attacking move. Führich clipped the ball forward to Deniz Undav, who squared it for Nartey to tap in from close range.
Eintracht Frankfurt pulled one back in the 72nd minute when Jonathan Burkardt converted a penalty after being brought down by Alexander Nübel.
Burkardt was given another chance deep into injury time after the referee pointed to the spot again following a handball by Chema Andrés. The 25-year-old made no mistake, converting once more to make it 2-2.
Fortunately for Stuttgart, the draw was enough to hold onto fourth place, as fifth-placed Hoffenheim suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach and missed their chance to move past Hoeneß’s side.
