One person was killed in the violence that broke out during the Lushois derby played on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at the Kamalondo Stadium. The victim, a brigadier, lost his life amid clashes between supporters of the two rival clubs, which also left several injured.

The showdown between TP Mazembe and FC Lupopo, held at Kamalondo Stadium in Lubumbashi, was part of the regular phase of the Linafoot Ligue 1. Anticipation was sky-high among supporters on both sides, but this historic derby was unfortunately marred by serious incidents after the final whistle.

According to reports from Radio Télévision Groupe Avenir (RTGA) on the show Grandes Gueules, violent clashes broke out both inside the stadium and in its immediate surroundings. The scuffles between fans resulted in the death of a brigadier affiliated with the Ravens, while several others sustained injuries.

Disputed responsibility

At this stage, the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy remain unclear. So far, the National Football League (LINAFOOT) has not issued any official statement regarding the violence.

In the aftermath, both clubs have been quick to shift blame for the chaos. TP Mazembe posted a video on social media, which they claim shows acts of violence committed by FC Saint Éloi Lupopo supporters.

For their part, the Cheminots released an official statement offering their own account of the events, laying responsibility for the incidents at the feet of their rivals.

This fierce rivalry in Congolese football—the derby between TP Mazembe and FC Lupopo—remains one of the most passionate fixtures in the Congolese league calendar. However, Sunday’s events have reignited the debate over security at Linafoot Ligue 1 matches.

An investigation is expected to shed light on responsibility and clarify the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
