Pedro Fernandez ‘Dro’ has been by far the hottest topic in the transfer market at Barcelona this January, after the youngster shockingly handed in a transfer request at the start of the month.
Regarded as one of the talents in La Masia, Barcelona had big plans for Dro. But his decision to leave left everyone shocked, including Hansi Flick.
The youngster has now joined PSG on a permanent deal worth around €8.2 million, with the French club already presenting the midfield phenom.
It is no secret that the relationship between Dro and Barcelona soured towards the end following his decision to quit, with the player even training in isolation in the final few days.
Speaking at his PSG presentation, Dro did not forget to take a subtle dig at Barcelona, calling PSG the best place to grow, completely disregarding his past association with the iconic La Masia.
“I’m very happy, super excited, it’s a very proud moment for my family,” he said (h/t SPORT).
“It’s an important step. I made the decision to continue growing as a player, and I think there’s no better place to grow than here.”
While this might seem standard for any new player to say about his new club, La Masia players have historically shown a bit more love and affection towards the academy, even when they left the club.
To add more salt to the wounds, Dro went on to heap praise on PSG’s youth setup and coaches.
“The project here with the young players is incredible thanks to the coach and everyone who makes it possible, and that’s why I’m here,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing you all and getting started, and also to going to the stadium and playing,” he concluded.
