CELTIC and Dundee face each other tonight in the opening fixture of the 2026/27 Premiership season.
Martin O’Neill’s side will raise the league flag ahead of kick-off in recognition of last season’s incredible title triumph, which was sealed with a 3-1 victory over Hearts on the final day of the campaign.
Dundee, meanwhile, finished eighth in the table, and also recorded one win against Celtic last season – a 2-0 win at Dens Park in October last year.
Ahead of tonight’s match, we take a look at a few facts and figures related to the Celtic v Dundee fixture…

03/08/26 Celtic v Dundee
02/12/26 Dundee v Celtic
09/01/27 Celtic v Dundee
19/10/25 Dundee 2-0 Celtic
03/12/25 Celtic 1-0 Dundee
07/02/26 Celtic 2-1 Dundee (SC, aet)

James Forrest has played 24 times against Dundee (15 starts, 9 sub) and scored eight goals. His first game was in September 2021, in a 2-0 home win for the Hoops, while he scored the first of his eight goals against Dundee with a penalty in a 5-0 home win in February 2013. He has also picked up one yellow card in those 24 games.
The winger signed for Dundee in the summer after four years at Hearts, where he made nearly 150 appearances, scoring 14 goals. And he’s already got his first goal for Dundee, opening the scoring in last weekend’s 4-0 League Cup win over Clyde at Dens Park.
Tonight’s match will be the 252nd league meeting between Celtic and Dundee. The Hoops have won 157 of those games, while Dundee have recorded 44 wins. The other 50 games have been drawn.
It was on October 26, 1895 that Celtic recorded their biggest ever competitive win when they defeated Dundee 11-0 at home in front of a crowd of 10,000. Celtic scored a total of 64 goals in that league-winning campaign, which also included two against Dundee in the opening game of the season.
Dundee’s biggest victory over Celtic came on April 19, 1980, when they beat the Hoops 5-1 at Dens Park. Celtic were the title holders while Dundee weren’t even in the top tier the previous term. Going into this game the Hoops were top, and Dundee were second bottom, and destined to go down again. So, there was no rational explanation for this headline-making 5-1 result after Celtic took the lead!
A hat-trick by Jock Weir on the last day of the 1947/48 season gave Celtic a 3-2 victory over Dundee at Dens Park, and also ended any possibility of relegation for the Hoops, who still finished the campaign 12th in a 16-team league, while Dundee were fourth.
Dundee manager Steven Pressley joined Celtic from Hearts in December 2006, and he would go on to make 25 appearances for the Hoops, scoring two goals. He won the title with Celtic that season and the Scottish Cup the following year.
