Paulo Dybala’s future at Roma will also be tied to his playing time, and Claudio Ranieri’s will to take the Argentine forward back to his best form and rely on him could result in an automatic contract extension in the near future.
The 31-year-old’s fitness has been a hot topic for every manager who sat on the Giallorossi bench since the player was signed in the summer of 2022, as his frequent injuries forced Roma coaches to handle his condition carefully.
There were even rumours that the club would’ve preferred to keep him sidelined to prevent him from piling up the minutes that would’ve triggered a renewal of his contract, which currently runs until June of 2025, for another season.

However, it couldn’t be the case with Ranieri at the helm after the former Leicester coach made his intention to field the Argentina international as much as he could in his first press conference at the club.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Dybala’s contract includes a clause providing for an automatic renewal for another season if he plays at least 55% of Roma’s games for more than 45 minutes over a three-year period.
As things stand, the pink newspaper suggests the contract extension until 2026 would be triggered with seven or eight more appearances.

The former Juventus striker picked up 11 Serie A appearances so far with the Giallorossi this term, despite only starting on six occasions, and is expected to be in Ranieri’s starting XI as Roma host Atalanta on Monday evening.
