Edin Džeko’s arrival at Schalke has sparked a surge in shirt sales, with the veteran already said to be offsetting costs through merchandise.
Sport Bild reports that around 10,000 shirts with his name have been sold. Schalke are said to receive about €35 per shirt after logistics, equating to roughly €350,000 in revenue. Even after taxes, about €300,000 would remain, which matches the base salary he is contractually due.
No transfer fee was paid to Fiorentina, so only bonuses could push spending beyond initial plans. Bonuses relate to goals or promotion. If promotion is achieved, Džeko would likely receive a €400,000 payment.
On the pitch, the Bosnia and Herzegovina striker has scored three times in the second tier so far. He netted once against 1. FC Kaiserslautern and added a brace in a 2-2 draw with Dynamo Dresden.
The early impact reflects strong enthusiasm around his winter move to Gelsenkirchen, on and off the pitch.
