Santos’ early exit from the Campeonato Paulista has intensified the pressure on Juan Pablo Vojvoda, with Thursday’s meeting with Vasco at Vila Belmiro, 19:00 Brasília time, seen as decisive for his future.
According to Globo.com, in the Novorizontino defeat that sealed elimination, Neymar started and Adonis Frías and Zé Rafael had returned from injury. Despite a complete group, Santos played poorly and went out to a last-minute goal.
The Vasco game is part of the fourth round of the Brasileirão. After it, Santos will have 12 days without a match, returning on 10 to face Mirassol in Série A. Vasco dismissed Fernando Diniz at the weekend.
That gap could give the club time to secure a potential new manager, who might debut against Mirassol. There are also voices inside Santos backing the Argentine to stay regardless of the Vasco result.
Pressure on Marcelo Teixeira has risen with each poor result, particularly now Vojvoda finally has his full squad available.
Since August last year, Vojvoda has overseen 30 matches, with nine wins and 12 draws, and nine defeats. His points return stands at 43.3 per cent.
