Tonda Eckert says Southampton have no fresh injury concerns after Sunday’s cup win at Fulham, ahead of Wednesday’s visit to the Hawthorns. According to Sainstmarching.com, Eckert issued a concise fitness update.
Welington remains sidelined, so Ryan Manning might be required to go again, with Eckert ready to consider alternatives if he starts to struggle under the schedule. The boss added that Shea Charles returns to the squad, indicating he was rested at Craven Cottage.
Captain Jack Stephens, another who sat out at Fulham, is expected to feature on Wednesday night. A victory could cut the gap to Wrexham to just one point.
With four games in 11 days, Eckert urged his players to keep their heads down in March, saying the group remain focused and still have plenty to chase. After Fulham there was little downtime, with staff putting in a long day on Monday to finalise plans for Tuesday’s meeting.
Eckert feels Saints are well prepared for West Brom, yet he is not discounting James Morrison’s Albion after their point at Sheffield United, which eased relegation fears. He highlighted the need to limit deliveries into the box against two strikers who are awkward to contain.
He warned there will be nothing easy about the trip, calling the Hawthorns the stadium where players cover the most distance in the league. He expects a physical test and says his side must be spot on.
