Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has delivered a concerning update on full-back Tino Livramento, with the defender set to miss this weekend’s meeting with Chelsea.

Livramento was withdrawn in the second half after appearing to hurt his knee in Newcastle’s 2-1 win against Fulham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening – an area that had troubled him earlier in the season.

The 23-year-old has been an important figure in Howe’s backline, making the setback a significant blow at a demanding stage of the campaign.

“Tino’s injury is a big negative. We don’t know, but it’s not looking good,” Howe confirmed after the game.

“It looks like a knee problem, and Tino’s had issues with knee injuries before. He had to come off and he’s such an honest, dependable lad.

“That sends worrying signs, really, for his participation maybe in the Chelsea game. Let’s wait and see,” he added.

There was, however, more positive news regarding Lewis Hall’s situation. Howe believes he has a ‘chance’ of being involved against his former club this weekend.

“He couldn’t play because of tightness in his hamstring, but he has a chance for Chelsea.”

Newcastle’s growing injury list continues to pose a challenge, with Howe also revealing that Joelinton, despite being named on the bench on Wednesday night, is still ‘nursing a groin problem’.

They are already without Nick Pope, Dan Burn, Sven Botman, Kieran Trippier, Emil Krafth and Will Osula, adding further challenges ahead of a difficult run of fixtures.
