Eddie Howe says he takes “full responsibility” for Newcastle’s defeat at Brentford.
The Magpies are still yet to win a Premier League away game this season after being beaten 3-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium, and sit 14th in the Premier League table.
“My message (to supporters) is that we know it’s not good enough and I take full responsibility for that,” Howe said after the game.
“The work to putting that right starts now and that’s all I can do in this moment.”
Harvey Barnes put Newcastle 1-0 up in the game before Kevin Schade’s equaliser.
But Dan Burn conceded a penalty and was sent off as Igor Thiago put the home side ahead before adding another late on.
And Howe is urging his team to stick together amid the criticism that will come their way.
“We know we’re going to get criticised, we expect that,” he said.
“I don’t see that being a problem for us, as long as we stick together and we’re really unified in this difficult period.
“For me, if you watch Newcastle regularly, we were lacking in confidence today.
“There was a lot of technical mistakes, which is really unlike us, especially in the middle of the pitch, where we’re usually really fluent.
“And that contributed, then, to putting us under pressure. So, I think, a different feeling to West Ham, different emotions. I think it’s really important today that I support the players and we know we have good players, we know we’ve got a really good team, but we just need to stay grouped together in this difficult period.”
