Manchester United are intensifying their efforts to sign Liga de Quito midfielder Ederson Castillo.

Early this month, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United have joined Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Anderlecht in the pursuit of the 17-year-old Ecuadorian.

Castillo recently won the national under-19 title with Liga de Quito and has already broken through into the first team, having made six appearances.

The midfielder marries intensity with exceptional positional awareness, drawing comparisons to Chelsea legend N’Golo Kante.

With his stock rising rapidly, United have made a move to secure the gifted midfielder’s signature.

Manchester United in contact for Ederson Castillo

According to Futbol Ecuador (via Sport Witness), United are in “direct contact” to sign Ederson Castillo.

It is claimed that the two clubs have opened “a direct line of communication” and LDU Quito are demanding €6.4m for their prodigious talent. Interestingly, their price tag has not put United off.

The Premier League giants remain in talks and continue to monitor Castillo closely.

The development suggests Castillo has already impressed figures at United, who are now seemingly exploring the conditions of a potential deal before submitting a formal bid.

Man United keen to strengthen their midfield

United are also looking to sign a first-team ready midfielder in January, having set their sights on Everton star James Garner.

Garner, who graduated from United’s academy before joining Everton, is entering the final six months of his contract in Merseyside.

As such, the Mancunians are considering signing the 24-year-old in a cut-price deal next month.

Meanwhile, for the summer transfer window, United have identified Nottingham Forest leader Elliot Anderson as their priority target.
