Ederson has left Manchester City after eight trophy-laden years at the Etihad Stadium.

The Brazilian goalkeeper is one of the most successful players in the Club’s history, winning 18 major honours under Pep Guardiola.

That haul comprises of six Premier Leagues, two FA Cups, four League Cups, three Community Shields and our first ever Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup successes.

Indeed, his six league titles mean he is the most decorated goalkeeper in the Premier League era of English football.

Further to that, former Liverpool man Bruce Grobbelaar is the only other goalkeeper to have also won the English top-flight title six times in the sport’s history.

Now 31, he has left City to join Turkish side Fenerbahce, subject to international clearance.

After arriving in Manchester ahead of the 2017/18 season, he went on to play 372 times across all competitions as Guardiola’s first choice between the sticks in Premier League and Champions League football.

In fact, only Bernardo Silva has played more games for City than Ederson since the summer of 2017.

No goalkeeper has ever kept more Premier League clean sheets for City than the Brazilian, with his 122 coming in 276 league appearances.

After a third-place finish in Guardiola’s first campaign, the then-23-year-old was one of several signings in the summer of 2017 that went on to create an era of dominance never before seen in English football.

Since he joined, City have won six of the last eight Premier Leagues and enjoyed a record-breaking run of four successive titles between 2020/21 and 2023/24.

Aside from the numbers, Ederson has also been the leader of a revolution in terms of what is expected of top-level goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Exceptionally calm under pressure, the goalkeeper’s passing ability was crucial in starting attacks from deep, while he was always ready to rush out of his goal to snuff out an opposition counterattack.

That’s before you discuss his shot stopping ability, which has seen him make jaw dropping and vital saves on our way to so many honours.

Most notably, the No.31 was a towering presence in the 2022/23 run to Champions League glory, including several crucial stops in the closing stages of our victory in the final against Internazionale in Istanbul.

Ederson was also the recipient of three Golden Glove awards, the prestigious prize awarded to the goalkeeper with most Premier League clean sheets.

He won the award outright in both 2019-20 and 2020-21, and shared the 2021-22 award with Alisson Becker after both goalkeepers registered 20 clean sheets.

Reflecting on his City career, Ederson said: “I leave Manchester City incredibly proud of what we have achieved together, and I am honoured to have worn the shirt so many times.

“Under Pep, we have dominated the Premier League and conquered Europe. It has been amazing.

"I would first of all like to thank him and Head of Goalkeeping Xabier Mancisidor for making me the best goalkeeper I could be and teaching so much about the game.

“I must also thank my team-mates. Our desire to win every game we play has been a joy to be a part of and that has made me relish every day on the training field or in the dressing room with every one of you.

“Finally, the fans. Thank you for making me feel at home in a city so far away from where I am from and for supporting me throughout what has been an amazing period for me and my family.

“I arrived in Manchester eight years ago full of hope, but I could not have predicted such a beautiful time together.

“Playing for City has been the most special time of my life and I will always be a fan of this special club. I'm going with my wife and children, but I'm leaving a big family here, Cityzens. Once a Blue, always a Blue."

Director of Football Hugo Viana paid tribute to Ederson’s outstanding contribution to the Club.

“Ederson has been an incredible servant to Manchester City,” said Viana.

“The fact no goalkeeper has ever won more Premier League titles says everything you need to know about his quality and consistency in a City shirt.

“He has been a huge figure in all our successes over recent years, and his skills and bravery have been crucial in helping City play the beautiful football we have seen.

“He has truly cemented his place in the history of Manchester City, and we all wish him well in the next chapter of his career. And he leaves us knowing that he will always be welcomed at this football club."

Everyone at Manchester City wishes Ederson the best in the next stage of his career.
