According to SuperDepor.com, Eduardo Coudet is set to become River Plate head coach after a full agreement was reached, with his appointment contingent on finalising his departure from Alavés, likely through compensation.
He is due to travel to Argentina next week and, once free to sign, will agree a contract until December 2027. He will arrive with assistants Patricio Graff and Carlos Fernández, while Octavio Manera and Guido Cretari will handle fitness.
After spells in Europe with Alavés and Celta Vigo, Coudet would be returning to South America, where he previously led Inter de Porto Alegre and Atlético Mineiro.
In Argentina he enjoyed two notable stints with Rosario Central and Racing.
As a player, he joined River in 1999 from San Lorenzo and stayed until 2004, including a loan to Celta Vigo. He made 179 appearances, scored 27 goals and supplied 49 assists. He won five domestic titles in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
His arrival comes during a delicate transition after Marcelo Gallardo chose to leave the club following the match against Banfield.
Talks are at an advanced stage with Santiago Solari, currently part of Real Madrid’s structure, as the leading candidate for sporting director. That move would mark a broader reset in football operations.
