Eintracht Frankfurt interim head coach Dennis Schmitt will remain on the bench for his team’s next fixture against Tottenham Hotspur. SGE board member-for-sport Markus Krösche guaranteed Schmitt at least one more match when speaking in the mixed zone after the latest defeat. Schmitt is currently being assisted by former Eintracht mainstay and SGE U19 head coach Alexander Meier.
Eintracht’s streak of conceding three goals in every competitive fixture played in 2026 has continued under Schmitt. The Hessians found themselves officially eliminated from the Champions League thanks to a shaky defensive performance against Qarabag on Wednesday. Schmitt’s Bundesliga debut against Hoffenheim featured another defensive meltdown extended the three-goals-conceded streak to five competitive fixtures.
Schmitt could only swear up and down that he and his nascent staff would do everything possible to break horrible defensive patterns at his Wednesday post-match press conference. To be fair, Schmitt also noted that the team and his coaching staff would have only one full day of training and analysis before the tight turnaround forced them to contest another league fixture.
Some seemingly reliable sources have linked FC St. Pauli head coach Alexander Blessin with the job. Krösche actually did not directly dispel these rumors when conducting a pre-match interview with Sky Germany on Saturday afternoon. Blessin still seems an unlikely candidate as he himself is struggling with his own club and St. Pauli just completed a transfer that looks to match Blessin with one of his preferred former players.
There have been no other reliable links.
“I think we’re a super sexy attractive club,” Krösche told Sky just prior to kickoff. “This is Eintracht Frankfurt, an extremely exciting and attractive club for every player and every coach. We have an exciting team with a lot of young players who still have potential for development. You don’t need to worry about us not being sexy enough.“
“I can understand the dissatisfaction [of the whistling fans],” a more haggard looking Krösche noted in the mixed zone afterwards. “We haven’t delivered much joy in recent weeks. The coaching duo will remain in place for the next match. We want to choose the right person. We played a good first half today, but lost confidence and became more passive later. We have to be more consistent.”
