Albert Riera looks to win back-to-back Bundesliga games for the first time when Eintracht Frankfurt host RB Leipzig in this week’s Topspiel. The visitors set their sights on extending their winning streak to a season-high four games.
The 6-0 defeat at the RedBull Arena was when the pressure started to mount on Dino Toppmöller. He managed to stay a few more months at the helm, but they didn’t recover from that setback under his watch.
Riera is unbeaten in his first four matches at the Deutsche Bank Park before picking up his first victory on the road last week against Wolfsburg. The two-point gap with Freiburg continues as the two teams might be in contention for the last European spot in Bundesliga.
Team News
Riera could repeat the starting lineup from the win against relegation-threatened Wolfsburg. Ritsu Doan, Mario Götze, and Can Uzun are potential changes in Eintracht’s midfield.
Ole Werner’s side revived their Champions League aspirations with three successive wins, which is something only champions-elect Bayern Munich achieve. A win on Saturday will equal their season-best record of four wins on the trot.
In their most recent victory, Rocco Reitz’s Borussia Mönchengladbach held them goalless for 80 minutes before Yan Diomande produced another special moment. Leipzig-bound Reitz was in the headlines before the game, but Moritz Nicolas’ performance in goal was the deciding factor before Diomande’s 11th Bundesliga goal.
Team News
Xavier Schlager will be absent following his fifth yellow card of the season, but Assan Ouedraogo is fit enough to return to the lineup following cameo appearances after the international break. Castello Lukeba is working on his way to recovery from the adductor injury that ruled him out last week.
The Ivory Coast international netted a career first hat-trick when the two teams met last December. Leipzig’s sixth goal was scored in the 65th minute as the hosts produced one of their best performances under Werner.
