Manchester City have reached agreement with Nottingham Forest on a £116 million deal for Elliot Anderson. According to Fabrizio Romano, City have arranged the midfielder’s medical to take place today, Friday, in New York while he is with England at the World Cup.
Forest had rejected City’s first two bids. The agreed price is a fixed up-front fee with no add-ons.
The figure would make Anderson the most expensive British player, above Arsenal’s £105 million purchase of Declan Rice, and a City record beyond the £100 million paid for Jack Grealish.
Before the tournament, England manager Thomas Tuchel permitted players to complete transfers during the World Cup, with medical provision readied in the United States. He added he would rather deals did not close the day before a match.
Anderson started England’s first two group games and is expected to keep his place for Saturday’s meeting with Panama. He has said he remains focused on the World Cup and finds it straightforward to block out speculation.
Forest stand to bank a major profit, having signed him from Newcastle United in 2024 for a net £15 million.
