Elvis Rexhbeçaj agrees to return to VfL Wolfsburg

FC Augsburg defensive midfielder Elvis Rexhbeçaj is set to make a return to VfL Wolfsburg on a contract until 2030.
Kicker reports that the 28-year-old Kosovar international has agreed to terms with Wolfsburg sporting director Pirmin Schwegler, after a few days of positive negotiations between the two parties. It has been made clear that Rexhbecaj intends to stay at Volkswagen Arena, even if Die Wölfe are relegated to 2. Bundesliga at the end of this season or in future years.
Rexhbeçaj has two goals in 25 matches for Augsburg this season - one of which was the deciding stoppage time goal in a late 3-2 victory in Wolfsburg in February. He has played 16 matches for the Kosovo national team, 7 of which were in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification rounds where he scored in a 2-0 victory against Sweden.
The 28-year-old is a graduate of the Wolfsburg academy, having started his time there at the age of 12, during the 2010/11 season; he went up through the ranks until 2017 when he made his senior team debut. He ultimately played 28 matches with the senior team between 2017 and 2022, scoring twice; during that time, he also went on loan to 1. FC Köln and VfL Bochum, managing a combined 5 goals in 75 appearances.
