The LFP said in a statement that it filed a complaint on 29 May after being alerted to atypical betting on a booking involving Elye Wahi in Nice’s 0-0 draw with Metz on 17 May.
Police questioned the 23-year-old as he left the Allianz Riviera following the play-off second leg against Saint-Etienne on 29 May, a 4-1 win in which he scored twice.
He initially thought the matter related to a driving licence issue linked to Germany, but instead spent several hours answering questions. The LFP has passed its information to the National Police gambling unit, the national gambling authority and the French FA.
Wahi has been interviewed, is not being prosecuted at this stage and is under no judicial constraint.
He will not face Germany in Canada on Saturday at 22:00 because the required administrative authorisations for entry have not been obtained. He will remain in the United States while the team travels.
On loan at Nice, the Frankfurt striker has nine goals in 19 appearances. His Transfermarkt valuation has risen from 12 to 18 million euros in six months.
No disciplinary process has begun, although recent cases involving Sandro Tonali, suspended 10 months in October 2023, and Lucas Paqueta, cautioned and warned in October 2025, keep uncertainty in the air.
