Elye Wahi will miss several weeks with an ankle sprain suffered at Lyon on Sunday, the Nice forward said in an Instagram post.

He hurt his right ankle after 15 seconds when Hans Hateboer cleared the ball against his foot at close range during OL-Nice, 2-0. He went off in the sixth minute.

In a Monday message to Nice supporters, he called Sunday’s tears anger and disappointment, underlined immense ambition with the club, and stressed a focus on returning as quickly as possible to help the team meet their target.

The exact length of his lay-off has not been disclosed, and it is a major setback for OGC Nice, who have benefited from the three goals he has scored since arriving in early January.

Nice’s medical staff have been keeping their counterparts in Frankfurt closely informed, as the former France Under-21 international is on loan without an option to buy and remains under contract there until 2030.
