Dominic Calvert-Lewin is due to depart the England camp with seven others before Tuesday’s Wembley friendly against Japan, after making his return in Friday’s 1-1 draw with Uruguay.

The federation announced that a revised squad of 27 players is preparing for Japan, with Aaron Ramsdale, Fikayo Tomori and Calvert-Lewin among those due to leave. John Stones is returning to Manchester City for assessment after an issue in training, while Adam Wharton and Noni Madueke have gone back to their clubs with knocks. Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka will also return to Arsenal for medical assessment.

Calvert-Lewin earned an England recall on the back of strong Leeds United form and was named in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay at Wembley. Tuchel rested several stars, including captain Harry Kane, with Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke starting up front.

The Leeds United forward replaced Solanke soon after the interval and was quickly involved in neat link play, but headed a clear chance wide from close range. He then attacked a corner that ran through to Ben White, who tapped in at the far post for England’s goal.

England now turn to Japan at Wembley on Tuesday with a reduced group following the departures.
