England produced their best display under Thomas Tuchel as they cruised past Serbia in Belgrade, taking a huge step towards booking their spot at next summer’s World Cup.

The Three Lions looked in control from the off and the result leaves them needing just five points from their remaining three qualifiers to seal a place in the tournament.

It took half an hour for the breakthrough, and it came in trademark fashion. Captain Harry Kane rose highest to nod in Declan Rice’s corner - his 74th goal in 109 games for his country.

Moments later, Noni Madueke grabbed his first England goal, racing clear before finishing smartly past Djordje Petrovic.

Just seven minutes into the second half, Ezri Konsa turned in from close range to notch his maiden England strike and effectively kill off the contest.

Serbia’s evening went from bad to worse when Nikola Milenkovic was shown a red card for a reckless challenge on Kane, who needed treatment. From the resulting set piece, Marc Guehi bundled in Rice’s delivery to make it four.

There was still time for one more. In stoppage time, substitute Marcus Rashford converted a penalty after Ollie Watkins had been brought down by Strahinja Erakovic, rounding off a dominant night for Tuchel’s side.

For the England boss, this was undoubtedly the most convincing performance since replacing Gareth Southgate and one that sets his team firmly on course for the World Cup.
