Thomas Tuchel facing some key selection dilemmas ahead of Group L opener against Croatia next week

England head to the World Cup on the back of two successive victories after beating Costa Rica 3-0 in their final warm-up match.

In a game that was delayed by an hour due to thunderstorms in Orlando, the Three Lions made a fast start at Inter&Co Stadium as Declan Rice’s deflected strike gave them a ninth-minute lead.

Thomas Tuchel made 11 substitutions in the second half, with England’s second and third goals arriving belatedly via Anthony Gordon’s emphatic penalty and a late header from close-range by Ollie Watkins.

Standard Sport’s Dom Smith was on hand to rate the England players’ performances…

Jordan Pickford 6

Didn’t have much to do in the time he was on. One errant pass in the first half.

Reece James 6

Defended well and picked some smart passes before making way for Djed Spence.

John Stones 6

Did well in central defence as he earned more minutes, which Tuchel was keen for him to do.

Ezri Konsa 6

It will either be Konsa or Stones to partner Marc Guehi against Croatia, you’d expect. Did his case no harm here.

Nico O’Reilly 7

Has emerged as England’s first-choice left-back after a breakout season at Manchester City, and was robust and physically impressive against Costa Rica.

Elliot Anderson 6

Strutted his stuff in midfield. A quiet display but with a couple of moments where his exceptional quality shone through.

Declan Rice 7

Scored the opening goal to add to his England account but offered poor set-piece deliveries and crosses.

Noni Madueke 7

A constant threat out wide and should have scored when he hit the post from point-blank range after rounding the goalkeeper.

Staking their claim: Anthony Gordon and Jude Bellingham both impressed for England against Costa Rica

PA

Full of energy and invention and grew into the game. One darting run showed his quality before he went off.

Anthony Gordon 7

Netted his third England goal with a ruthless penalty before being replaced by Marcus Rashford.

Harry Kane 6

Pinged two outrageously good passes into team-mates but was otherwise quiet in the 63 minutes he was on. Appeared to make it through unscathed, which is vital to England’s World Cup hopes.

Dean Henderson (Pickford, 63’) 5

Had almost nothing to do, so limited was Costa Rica’s attacking threat.

Djed Spence (James, 63’) 6

Did a good job when he came on. Has been decent in both warm-up friendlies.

Morgan Rogers (Kane, 63’) 7

Influenced the game immediately. Had a glaring miss but tried some good things and his shot allowed Watkins his goal.

Marc Guehi (Stones, 63’) 5

One nice piece of mopping up was almost the extent of his quiet cameo in a game where play was up the other end.

Bukayo Saka (Madueke, 63’) 6

Didn’t see much of the ball but had one effort from a tight angle which flashed wide.

Eberechi Eze (Rice, 63’) 6

Earned England their penalty and took up clever positions. Nearly scored.

Ollie Watkins (Bellingham, 71’) 7

Got the goal he’ll have hoped for when he came on. Right place at the right time.

Kobbie Mainoo (Anderson, 71’) 6

Some nice turns and passes and forced a good save late on. Tidy.

Jarell Quansah (Konsa, 71’) 5

Slotted in at the back but didn’t have much to do.

Dan Burn (O’Reilly, 71’) 5

Put himself about but couldn’t make use of his frame in the air.

Marcus Rashford (Gordon, 71’) 5

His decision-making was good but not as impactful as when he started against New Zealand.
