England reached the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup thanks to a brace from Jude Bellingham that saw them defeat Norway 2-1 in Miami.

Both teams scored a disallowed second goal each in a match that headed to extra time, where England won the game as Morgan Rogers’s shot was spilt by the goalkeeper and tapped home by Bellingham.

Dom Smith was at Miami Stadium to rate the England players’ performances…

Jordan Pickford 7

Saved from Erling Haaland, twice, but beaten three times. First by the cross that flew in off his post, then by a disallowed Norway second, and then by Kristoffer Ajer’s header against the crossbar. Some good long balls.

Ezri Konsa 7

Filled in well at right-back and was careful not to give the dangerous Antonio Nusa too much space when he was on his side.

John Stones 6

Made a hash of one pass which almost put Haaland clean through. Recovered and improved from there, heading balls clear well.

Marc Guehi 7

Calm on the ball as usual but thrown a round a little by Haaland om a few duels.

Nico O’Reilly 7

Possibly his best performance of the tournament until he went off. Handy with the ball and very disciplined defensively.

Elliot Anderson 7

Another very impressive and energetic display from the midfielder, who was involved in Bellingham’s goal.

Declan Rice 5

Didn’t have a huge effect on the game before he went on. Poor with his corner deliberate again.

Noni Madueke 5

Had one cross which almost brought the opening goal but was otherwise safe or wasteful in possession.

Jude Bellingham 9

Turned up once again, Levelled with a huge goal that showed the poise and power that he is all about, then won the game with a tap in that showed real striker’s instincts.

Assisted Bellingham for the goal and was tireless again off the ball. An outlet in possession. Taken off after 71 minutes.

Harry Kane 6

Not his finest game but scored a goal disallowed for offside. Worked very hard, particularly after he’d lost the ball.

Subs:

Bukayo Saka (Madueke, 46’) 7

Bright when he came on. Tried to shift the ball into a position to cross and had a couple of shots.

Eberechi Eze (Rice, 46’) 6

A couple of nice touches in midfield and then moved to the left. A mature display in the second half as well as in extra time.

Reece James (Gordon, 71’) 7

Made a nervy start but grew into the game and was important in using his physicality in midfield. Good defensively in extra time as England sought to hold on.

A very good display off the bench from him. Even though the penalty call was overturned, his wonderful run saw him win a spot-kick in extra time, or at least think he had. And he forced a fine save in extra time. A problem Norway couldn’t deal with.

Morgan Rogers (Konsa, 89’) 7

Took up positions in the pocket and it was his shot from distance that allowed Bellingham to pick up the pieces for the winner.
