England’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina, 1-2 on Wednesday, delivered the UK’s biggest television audience since the Euro 2020 final.
According to L'Équipe, the BBC’s broadcast averaged 22.1 million viewers and peaked at 24.6 million during the match.

That peak makes it the country’s most-watched TV event since England lost the Euro final to Italy in 2021, 1-1, 2-3 on penalties.
The BBC reached a peak of 30.95 million viewers for that final.
The BBC was among the event’s broadcasters in Great Britain.
