The day after the death of Stade Brestois head coach Éric Roy from pancreatic cancer at 58, supporters began paying tribute around Stade Francis-Le Blé on Thursday.

The club said in a statement that from 18:00 on Thursday, books of condolence would be available until Saturday for messages that will be given to Roy’s family, and that at 19:00 a formal tribute would take place at the entrance to the Foucauld stand, attended by the mayor of Brest and the club president.

Fans had already organised a spontaneous gathering for the evening at the stadium after the news.

In the morning, flowers were placed beneath the club crest carrying the messages "Pour le King" and "King ERIC".

Nice-born, Roy joined Brest in January 2023 and oversaw remarkable on-field progress while confronting his illness in private.
