Manchester United academy star Ethan Ennis is all set to join Fleetwood on a season-long loan. The young winger was also wanted by Plymouth Argyle, but has now decided to move to the Lancashire club instead on transfer deadline day.
The news was broken this morning by The Manchester Evening News
Ennis arrived at the Red Devils’ academy in 2021, after turning down a contract renewal offer from Liverpool. The 20 year old has enjoyed an impressive rise with the youth side so far.
While Ennis has operated across the frontline during his time with the academy, the left wing appears to be his long-term position. He has also built a reputation as a goalscoring winger in recent years.
The youngster spent the second half of last season on loan with Doncaster Rovers, help them earn promotion to League One.
Recent reports had stated that Ennis was close to joining Fleetwood this summer.
The Englishman is now all set to move to the Highbury Stadium on a temporary deal for the rest of the campaign. Ennis could make his debut for Fleetwood tomorrow, Tuesday, September 2, when they face Accrington Stanley in the Football League Trophy.
The Fisherman, however, won’t have the option to sign him permanently. The player’s previous contract was due to expire this summer, but he has already extended his stay until 2027.
Ennis signed his first professional contract with the Premier League giants immediately after turning 17 years old. Only the best talents at the club are handed out professional deals so early in their career, suggesting that the Old Trafford outfit hold him in high regard.
The youngster registered 10 goals in 19 games for the Under-18 side in the 2021/22 campaign, which was his first season with United’s academy. Ennis’ development was abruptly halted following an ACL injury in August 2022. However, after a 14-month layoff, Ennis has quickly regained his best form and is already tipped for great things ahead.
